At secondary school level we were taught about red Native Americans, because our own history was considered too dangerous for us to know.  Ignorance has lot to answer for.  
As for Wolfe Tones, growing up my father ensured we did not have cassettes in the car of anything that may have been considered &quot;republican&quot; not by us or him but by others who may wish us harm should this type of music identify us.
