Brian Cowen is listening, God bless him!

Yes Taoiseach, this whole situation has come about by greed. The problem is, why this wasn’t seen long ago and that the relevant legislation wasn’t put in place to help those greedy bastards to control themselves, because they couldn’t contol their greed, and that should have been seen in advance.

On the other side of the coin, we, as a small nation, have no control over the world-wide situation, which is today at least the USA and the UK, and we are just riding along with what has gone on. Fair play to you for taking the plunge with this guarantee, but every leader in the future must understand that human greed must be controlled. I am totaly agaist excessive legislation, but why are ye after f*cking up the Irish culture with your legislation and forgot to control what really was important to control?

Aomeone, somewhere lost sight of the big picture and they were counting pennies with smoking rules etc. but forgot to control the f*cking *greed* properly – which has lead to, and will lead to more, deaths from stress and financial pressure than any smoking will ever do. It’s like checking the upholstery in the car and forgetting about the engine. Stick with reality Mr Cowen, drop the bullshit and know the difference, which is the most important part. It seems to me that you understand that anyway, thank God, even if a little late. When all is settled down a little and you have had a chance to have a week with your family, fly down here to Lanzarote and come to Charlie´s, and there will be a pint of the plain standing on the counter with your name on it. Cheers.

I genuinely pray to God for your health, Brian, and wellbeing in these difficult times. Head down, like a bull, and a*se to the wind. Blink for no one, trust your own instincts and drive on like f*ck, and it will all work out for the simple reason that I know you genuinely want what’s best for the Irish nation, above all else. Good luck.

  1. Murphy, that´s the problem with most politicians – they don´t seem to see the BIG picture and concentrate on totally irrelevant things like the smoking ban. If they really wanted to ban smoking they would make tobacco illegal. But that would COST the economy of course, jobs would be lost, taxes would be lost (wouldn´t want politicians to lose out on a fat salary, wouldn´t we?!). No, it´s easier to tackle problems from the wrong end for them. Which of course is the wrong way to do it.

This is just an example of the general mentality of people (including politicians) – I recently came across a poll where you could vote for 5 different things to donate to – 2 options were Environment Agencies and 3 were Humanitarian Organisations. The results were obvious – most people voted for Humanitarian Organisations.

However, when you look at the BIG picture, in my humble opinion, wouldn´t we need to look at our natural environment and its preservation FIRST so we don´t pollute and destroy it any more than it already is and make it liveable for long term “usage” so that us humans that have to live alongside it can benefit from it and in the *long term* significantly raise the quality of life? I believe we don´t pay enough attention to that and spend too much of our tax money on saving people all over the world. We should “heal” our environment that we NEED to live in first and concentrate on making it more fruitful, thereby raising quality of life (some organisations do this by helping in parts of Africa, e.g., by making land farmeable etc.) Stop Pollution. Stop Oil Spills from happening etc. Ban harmful substances that can contaminate the soil or water. Those kinds of things. The thing is that in the LONG TERM, we need this to happen, otherwise we won´t have clean air to breathe, nor water to drink in, say, 25 years´ time.

I am not saying that we shouldn´t help people in need, hell no, but there should be more emphasis on environmental issues as well because, let´s face it: without this planet we´re f*cked. We haven´t got another one to go to (yet!) once we have ruined this one beyond repair. We are all part of this whole eco-sphere, people AND the environment and even though the environment can totally do without *us*, WE cannot do without the environment….

    Just my 2 cents. :)

  3. Murphy, that is a very selfish view by yourself of the world – when you are gone there will still be your children and children´s children etc. who will suffer the consequences!

But hell yeah, I can see your point LOL! ;)

  4. If you think of the earth as a natural thing i.e. the human body ..well what human beings have been doing to the earth is the very same as what cancer does to the human body, if you follow me! now the earth has been around for a lot longer than humans and is much more intelligent (mother nature blah blah) so to be perfectly honest i dont think the human race has that long left anyway ..maybe 300 years, unless we develop some kind of new evolutionary thought pattern that elimantes our competitive-ness and greed which were essential for our survival up to now but have in only the last 80 years led to heavier rainfall (Bangladesh as a country is finished and when i was home in ‘AUGUST’ there were people paddling down Carlow mainstreet in canoes!) due to abuse of carbon emmisions in Cities and industry.
so i just hope my kids are new wave hippys who don’t smoke dope everyday and wash on a regular basis!
But i am not in denial and realize that if there were no more human beings on this planet LIFE would flourish. so we are fucked methinks!
But on brighter note having been to Germany a few times i was very impressed with how ‘green aware’ the culture is, we could learn a lot from them , its a lovely clean healthy country ..just a bit boring!

  5. Rory, dittodittoditto. Glad I´m not the only person that thinks this way. But Germany isn´t that clean really – go to some places like Berlin or Hamburg and you´ll find it´s pretty much as bad as any big City. And just out of curiosity, nothing to do with my being German, but why do you think it´s a bit boring???
